What is Ring through Do Not Disturb?
Ring through Do Not Disturb lets you call a member of your HeyPolo group and make their phone ring even if it is on silent or Do Not Disturb. This can be useful if you need to reach someone urgently and they are not hearing regular calls.
This feature works through Critical Alerts on iOS and priority-style notification settings on Android, so you must enable these permissions on the receiving device.
How to enable it:
On iOS (iPhone & iPad)
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and select HeyPolo.
- Tap Notifications.
- Enable Allow Critical Alerts.
A system prompt will appear explaining that these alerts can play a sound even when the device is muted or in Do Not Disturb mode; tap Allow to confirm.
On Android
Note: Because Android versions vary, these steps may differ slightly by manufacturer, such as Samsung, Google, or Xiaomi.
- Open Settings and go to Apps or Applications.
- Find and tap HeyPolo.
- Tap Notifications.
- Make sure all HeyPolo notifications are turned on.
- Look for notification categories, often labeled Alerts or Emergency.
- Open that category and select Ignore Do Not Disturb or Set as Priority.
This allows these calls or alerts to ring through even when the phone is silenced.
If it’s not working
If the phone is still not ringing through:
- Open the HeyPolo app, tap your Group name at the top, press the three dots, tap My visibility, and confirm Ring phone toggle is enabled:
- On iOS 16 and later, check whether a Focus mode is silencing HeyPolo.
- On Android, go to Settings > Sound & vibration > Do Not Disturb > Apps and make sure HeyPolo is allowed.
- Make sure battery-saving settings are not restricting HeyPolo, as this can sometimes interfere with urgent alerts. You can read more about it in our battery optimization help center guide.
Additional tips
- This feature is most useful for urgent calls to people in your group who may keep their phone on silent.
- For more information about visibility layers, follow our help center guide.
- You can use this feature to find your phone by ringing it - you will hear it even if you’ve left your phone on silent.
- The person you are trying to reach must have the required notification permissions enabled on their own device.
- Even if Do Not Disturb is bypassed, the phone still needs to have audible volume set high enough for the sound to be heard.
