HeyPolo is built to ensure you are never alone in a crisis. The app notifies your groups and emergency contacts the moment you need help. Before you start
- Make sure you've enabled Critical Alerts (iOS) or Priority Notifications (Android) in your phone settings so you can hear SOS alarms even when your phone is muted.

Here is what to do

What is Emergency Access, and how do I use it?
Emergency Access is a safety feature designed to give your group peace of mind when it matters most. It ensures that if someone needs a hand, their group knows exactly where to find them. Even if a member usually keeps their visibility set to Private, this feature ensures help can always reach the right place during an emergency.
To use this for a group member:
- Open HeyPolo, tap People, and select the member you are checking on.
- Tap the three dots next to their name and select View Member.
- Tap Permissions:
- Tap Emergency access:
- Tap Use emergency access.
- Select Yes:
NOTE: Once activated, you can view the group member's exact location for 30 minutes.
What is the SOS button, and how do I use it?
When you find yourself in a situation where you need immediate support, the SOS button is your direct line to your community. It is designed to be quick and easy to use, ensuring that your location and a high-priority alert reach your groups and emergency contacts in seconds.
To trigger an SOS:
- Tap the SOS button on the main map screen:
- Move the SOS slider to the right:
When you move the SOS slider, HeyPolo instantly:- Alerts your group: everyone in your group(s) gets a loud notification on their phone showing your exact live location as well as a push notification.
- Texts your emergency contacts: the people you’ve added get an SMS so they know you need immediate help.
Additional tips
- If you accidentally trigger an SOS, you can cancel it via the on-screen prompt. A "Clear" notification will be sent to your group so they know you are safe.
- Remember that triggering an SOS alerts everyone in every group you are in.
