HeyPolo's Crash Detection uses your phone's motion sensors and driving data to recognize the signs of a possible collision, then checks in with you before ever alerting your circle. This guide explains how Crash Detection works, what happens when it triggers, and how it fits HeyPolo's promise of care without control.
NOTE: If your visibility is “More Precise,” then Crash Detection and other HeyPolo Driving Features are enabled by default.
What you need to have
- Location Services enabled and set to "Always" or "Precise."
- Motion & Fitness (iOS) or Physical Activity (Android) permissions granted, since crash detection relies on combined motion, speed, and location signals.
- Visibility must be more precise to use HeyPolo Driving Features.
What happens in an accident
- If HeyPolo detects a possible crash, it will prompt you on-screen and via notification to confirm you're okay.
- If you respond "I'm ok" the alert is cleared, and nothing is shared with your circle.
- If you don't respond within the countdown window, HeyPolo notifies your group members with your last known location, so they can check in or send help.
Additional tips
- Crash Detection works best with a strong GPS and cellular signal, since it depends on accurate speed and location data.
- If you want alerts for people in your group about risky driving, tap a member and enable “Risky trips.”
- False alerts can happen (for example, during hard braking or handing your phone to someone else) - simply confirm you're okay to dismiss them.
- Crash Detection adds an extra layer of reassurance, but it's not a replacement for calling emergency services directly if you're ever in doubt.
